West Brom want Chelsea striker Lukaku on loan

Friday 10 August 2012

New West Bromwich Albion Head Coach Steve Clarke will turn to one of his former clubs as he looks for re-enforcements ahead of the new Premier League season, as the Daily Mail reports Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is a loan target for the Baggies.

Clarke, who played for Chelsea and served as a coach and assistant manager under Jose Mourinho, was appointed the successor to Roy Hodgson this summer. He had previously been assistant manager to Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool and is preparing for his first position in charge.

Fulham had been strongly mentioned as a likely destination for Lukaku but the player’s agent rejected that notion out of hand. Christophe Henrotay added he was in discussions with another Premier League club but declined to name them. The Mail however believes it is West Brom who are keen on the Belgium international. Lukaku joined Chelsea last summer but struggled to make an impression on the first team.
