Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Manchester Utd. Today:

Veteran trio offered roles.

Manchester United will offer coaching roles to trio Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville. The players, who progressed through United’s youth set-up have all been earmarked as future coaches by manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The Scot told L’Equipe “When they stop playing they will stay. I don’t think the club will pass up that much experience.” All three are currently taking their coaching badges and have recently signed one year contract extensions with the club.

United not for sale.

The “Red Knights” have reportedly shelved plans to buy the club. The consortium which includes Jim O’Neill, the Goldman Sachs banker was considering buying the club from the Glazers for £1.2bn. The Glazers have recently stated the club is not for sale though and claimed they recently turned down an offer of £1.5bn from an unnamed Middle-Eastern investor. The current owners have upset many United fans who feel the Americans are using profits to pay off their own debts which allegedly lye somewhere in the region of £750m.

United eye Chelsea man.

Manchester United have made Joe Cole a top target this summer according to the Daily Mail. The Chelsea man looks set to leave Stamford Bridge on a free after failing to agree a new contact with the Premier League champions. Sir Alex Ferguson feels the 28-year-old will give an extra dimension to his side and will see it as an early victory over the London side. The Red Devils will have to fight for the England midfielder’s signature with Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City all thought to be interested.
