Newcastle news – Magpies in for Williams, Boyata deal latest, Taylor set for Arsenal exit

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Newcastle Utd. Today:

Arsenal in for Taylor.

Arsene Wenger is lining up a £5m bid for Newcastle defender Steven Taylor, according to the Sunday Mirror. The Newcastle centre-half was injured for the majority of United’s successful Championship campaign, and missing the end of the season after suffering a reported broken jaw at the hands of young forward Andy Carroll. Now Arsenal, who struggled defensively again last season and who could loose veteran Sol Campbell to Celtic, could move to bring the London born defender to The Emirates. Chris Hughton has stated in recent week’s that Taylor will be a key player at St James next season.

Newcastle in for Williams.

Newcastle could replace Taylor with Swansea defender Ashley Williams, but face a battle with West Brom to sign the Welsh centre-half, reports Goal.com. The Swansea player of the season, named in the PFA Championship team of the year, the powerful Welsh tackler has played down suggestions linking him with a switch to the Premier League, but United could take advantage of the instability at Swansea, with boss Paulo Sousa yet to sign a new deal with the Liberty Stadium side.

Newcastle consider Boyata move.

Newcastle and Sunderland are set to battle it out to sign young Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata, suggests North East paper The Sunday Sun. The 19-year-old Belgian was named City’s young player of the year last season despite making just five league starts and both Tyne-Wear sides could face a battle to tempt The Citizen’s boss Roberto Mancini to part with the young defender, even on loan. United’s move for Boyata comes after Nedum Onouha has reportedly told the St James side he will snub any move to the North East whilst former teammate Joey Barton is at the club.
