Tottenham news – Cole to Spurs links resurface, Modric signs new six-year deal, Keane in Villa link

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Tottenham. Today:

Modric signs new six-year deal.

Luka Modric has signed a new six-year year contract at White Hart Lane, ending rumours of a possible move this summer. Harry Redknapp was adamant about keeping hold of the Croatian international for next season’s Champions League after interest was shown by several clubs including Manchester United. Modric arrived at White Hart Lane in 2008 from Dinamo Zagreb but his new contract secures his future until 2016. He told The Telegraph: “Tottenham gave me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them.”

Keane in Villa link.

Tottenham striker Robbie Keane could be on his way to Aston Villa this summer according to the News of the World. Keane went on loan to Celtic for five months last season and scored 16 goals in just 19 appearances, but his accolades across the border did nothing to affect the pecking order at White Hart Lane. Former Celtic boss Martin O’Neill is said to be interested in the Republic of Ireland international, but is unwilling to pay the £18 million asking price.

Cole to Spurs links resurface.

Joe Cole could be on his way to White Hart Lane sooner rather than later according to The Guardian. Cole was hoping to secure a new contract with Chelsea but the prospective signing of Liverpool’s Yossi Benayoun has scuppered his chances of a future at Stamford Bridge. With Champions League credentials to boast next season, Tottenham Hotspur have become the most likely candidates to put pen to paper and secure the 28-year-old.
