Modric to support England at World Cup.
Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric is hoping to see as many of his English teammates as possible at this summer’s World Cup in South Africa. The Spurs midfielder, who was rumoured to be leaving White Hart Lane, will not be taking part in the tournament after Croatia failed to qualify but has said he will be supporting England. He told Hotspur magazine: “I hope Ledley will be there, Daws, Tom, Azza, Crouchy, JD. Because of them I would like to see England win or at least go far in the tournament.”
Spurs bulk at Joe Cole wage demands.
Joe Cole’s £100,000 a week wage is too high for Tottenham says the Daily Star. A long-term knee injury has kept Cole from regular appearances for both club and country and it is still uncertain whether he will be going to South Africa next month for the World Cup. Spurs, Manchester United and Liverpool are all said to be keeping a close eye on Cole after Chelsea announced they would not be renewing the 28-year-old’s contract next season.
Redknapp rules out Ireland move.
Tottenham have said they will not be going after Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland in the summer. After a difficult season under Roberto Mancini, Ireland’s future at the club is uncertain but Harry Redknapp has said the 23-year-old is not a target. He told The Sun: “Stephen is undoubtedly a very good player but we have a lot of players who can fill that position. I like him but he won’t be a target.”
