Chelsea news – Chelsea target Carroll, Torres prefers Blues move, Cole nears Arsenal move

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Chelsea. Today:

Cole nears Arsenal move.

The Mirror reports Joe Cole has agreed a four-year contract with Arsenal, reportedly signing a £100,000 a week contract. The paper claims the deal will be completed after this summers World Cup, after weeks of rumours and speculation. The paper also claims however that Chelsea still hope Cole will remain at the Bridge, assistant Ray Wilkins told The Mirror: “We’ve obviously been in dialogue with Joe for months now and it’s pretty evident that Carlo and myself would love Joe to stay but it’s down now to the club to see what we can do. We sincerely hope Joe stays with us – he’s a smashing guy and he’s a wonderful footballer so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

Chelsea target Carroll.

The Blue’s have been linked with a surprise move for Newcastle United’s young forward Andy Carroll, according to The website claims the club are targeting young, up and coming players as Carlo Ancelotti plans for the future. The Geordie born forward has expressed his hopes to stay on Tyneside but with Chelsea’s two biggest attacking players, Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba both over 30, the move for the Gateshead born under-21 England international, who netted 19 goals in 35 games for the Magpies last season could go ahead.

Torres prefers Chelsea move.

Fernando Torres is set to snub becoming the worlds highest paid player at Manchester City in favour of a £50m to Chelsea. The Sunday Express claims City were prepared to pay the Spaniard £200 000 a week to lure the Liverpool forward away from Anfield. Torres is said to be disillusioned with life at the Kop after a miserable season has ended with Rafa Benitez’s sacking and reports earlier in the week suggested Chelsea were top of the list for potential clubs for the Spain international.
