Liverpool news – Mascherano to make Inter move, Houllier backs Hodgson, Fowler wants Redknapp at Anfield

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Liverpool. Today:

Houllier backs Hodgson.

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has backed Roy Hodgson to become the next manager at Anfield. Houllier believes that Hodgson’s vast coaching experience makes him the ideal candidate for the job, according to the Daily Post. Houllier also points to Hodgson’s spell at Inter where he managed some big names as well as his ability to get the best out of his squad on a tight budget. The current Fulham boss is emerging as the favourite for the Liverpool job, although there are plenty of other names being mentioned too.

Fowler wants Redknapp at Anfield.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has broken his silence over the current managerial situation at Anfield and has backed Harry Redknapp for the job. Redknapp has transformed Tottenham from relegation candidates to Champions League qualifiers in the space of two years and Fowler believes that the Spurs boss could change Liverpool’s fortunes in a similar way. However, it seems unlikely that Redknapp would ditch high-flying Spurs for Liverpool given their current fortunes and the bleak financial situation at Anfield.

Mascherano to make Inter move.

Argentina captain Javier Mascherano has cast doubts over his future at Anfield by praising Rafael Benitez and admitting the Spaniard is the best man for the Inter job, according to the Mirror. Mascherano, who is one of Liverpool’s ‘stars’ alongside Gerrard and Torres, said of Benitez ‘his football is my football.’ It seems likely that if Benitez does join the Italian champions, Mascherano will follow. However, he may not be the only player to leave Anfield this summer, with several reports suggesting that Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are also on their way out.
