Gill dampens takeover talk

The Glazer family are not selling Manchester United, according to chief executive David Gill. The Red Devils have run into financial problems since the Americans took over back in 2005, leading to many fans calling on them to sell the club. Consortiums made up of wealthy supporters called the Red Knights were reported to be eyeing a bid a few days ago. However Gill told SkySports: “The likelihood of a sale by the Glazer family is almost certainly nil.”

Dzeko deal dead

Manchester United target Edin Dzeko will not be making the move to Old Trafford this summer after a clause in his contract expired. The Wolfsburg striker had a £34m release clause in his contract which expired Monday. The German’s sporting director Dieter Hoeness feels clubs have missed their opportunity to sign the 24-year-old. “The conditions have not been met,” Hoeness said. “We are very pleased that the period of uncertainty is over. He is a player of huge quality who would have been very difficult for us to replace.” Manchester City, AC Milan and Chelsea were also thought to be keen on the Bosnian international.
