Real Madrid up interest in Liverpool’s Johnson

New Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has set his sights on bringing rampaging right-back Glen Johnson to the Bernabeu, according to The Sun. Mourinho is still desperate to sign his primary target for the position, Douglas Maicon, from his old club Inter, however the arrival of his arch-rival Rafael Benitez at the club has lessened the chance of that happening. Therefore, the ‘Special One’ sees England’s number-one right-back as the ideal man to run down the flank for his Real Madrid side.

The Sun claims that a bid of £15m is being prepared, a sum which would represent a loss for the Anfield side who paid just over that amount to acquire Johnson’s services a year ago. The deal would however be unlikely to go ahead, if Mourinho succeeds in his attempts to get Liverpool’s star-man Steven Gerrard this summer.
