Tottenham news – Bentley open to Spurs exit, Pienaar deal competition, King out for England

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Tottenham. Today:

Bentley open to Spurs exit.

David Bentley’s future at White Hart Lane is uncertain after a season in the shadow of Aaron Lennon. The 25-year-old only made 12 Premier League starts last season and has spoken to Skysports about his future playing prospects: ‘Hopefully I will get fit and as strong as possible and look to have another good season. Whether I get out on the pitch, you never know. You can be as fit as possible but not play any football, so we will see what happens.’

King out for England group games.

Ledley King’s World Cup could be over according to Eurosport. Yesterday, it was confirmed the Tottenham defender would be unavailable for England’s match against Algeria on Friday, but the groin injury could be worse than first understood. It is believed the injury-prone centre-half has damaged an adductor muscle which takes three weeks to recover from. Jamie Carragher was King’s replacement in Saturday’s match against the USA, while Matthew Upson and Michael Dawson are the two other candidates for Fabio Capello to choose from.

Pienaar deal competition.

Aston Villa have joined Tottenham Hotspur in a dual for Steven Pienaar according to Goal.com. The Everton midfielder is currently playing for hosts South Africa in the World Cup after an impressive season with the Toffees. It is believed the Pienaar would be interested in a move to a club with the prospect of European Football, which could tempt him to either side. With only 12 months left on his contract, David Moyes would risk losing the South African for free if he chooses to keep hold of the player for another season.
