Tottenham news – Redknapp sets sights on midfield starlet, Barcelona want Bale, Dawson gets England call

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Tottenham. Today:

Dawson gets England call.

Uncapped Tottenham Defender Michael Dawson has flown out to join England in South Africa, after Rio Ferdinand was ruled out of the competition yesterday with knee ligament damage. The England captain sustained the injury in a tackle with Emile Heskey, and was later seen leaving a hospital on crutches close to England’s training ground. Once again, Dawson finds himself in Capello’s preparations after being wiped from the Italian’s plans on Tuesday. The 26-year-old told The Telegraph: “It’s a crazy game and things can change in a split second.”

Redknapp sets sights on midfield starlet.

Harry Redknapp is preparing to move in on Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Khaleem Hyland according to Skysports.com. The Spurs boss has closely monitored the progress of the 20-year-old since his time at Portsmouth, but problems with the player’s work permit made a transfer impossible. Hyland currently plays his football in Belgium for Zulte Waregem, but Redknapp hopes a deal can be made to bring him to White Hart Lane this summer. Galatasaray have already had two bids rejected by the Belgium club, while advances from clubs in Serie A have also been speculated.

Barcelona want Bale.

Barcelona are pursuing Tottenham left-back Gareth Bale, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo. The Catalan Giants have set their sights on the 20-year-old after doubts grew about current left-backs Maxwell and Eric Abidal. A number of clubs are reportedly interested in Bale, who hit form in the second half of last season to help Spurs to fourth and the final Champions League place. The La Liga title holders will have to fight for the services of the young Welshman who has recently signed a new contract at White Hart Lane.
