Tottenham news – Spurs Forlan latest, Dawson ready for England chance, Lineker disappointed

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Tottenham. Today:

Spurs Forlan latest.

Diego Forlan remains a target of Tottenham Hotspur according to a report by Sunday Mirror. Harry Redknapp has been a long time admirer of the Uruguayan who is currently out in South Africa for the World Cup and has scored twice from two matches so far in the group stages. The 31-year-old is believed to be a key target of the Tottenham boss as he strengthens his side ahead of next season’s Champions League.

Dawson ready for England chance.

In a report by Goal.com, Tottenham centre-half Michael Dawson has said he is ready to make his debut for England with just Slovenia left to play in Group C. The Spurs man will be competing with Jamie Carragher and Matthew Upson for the starting position but believes he has what it takes partner John Terry: “Since I’ve been here, I’ve tried to do the best I can, train in the same way as I do at Tottenham. ‘Since I’ve been here, I’ve tried to do the best I can, train in the same way as I do at Tottenham. We will just wait and see who is playing.’

Lineker disappointed.

Spurs legend Gary Lineker has said England look talentless at the South Africa World Cup. The 49-year-old remains confident Fabio Capello’s men can beat Slovenia to go through to the knock out phase, despite two very poor performances in their other Group C matches: “It was like they’d had the talent zapped out of them,” said Lineker after the Algeria match. “They just didn’t look like the top class performers we see each week in the Premier League.”
