Defoe set for England start.
Tottenham striker Jemain Defoe is likely to start in today’s crucial, all or nothing match against Slovenia according to reports in The Mirror. The Spurs hitman netted 30 goals for club and country last season, compared to a meagre six scored by Emile Heskey. Defoe scored the winner in last September’s friendly match against Slovenia, but whether he can do it again and pull England single-handedly through group C, we will have to wait and see.
Spurs in Kjaer talks.
A trio of Premiership clubs are in contention for Palermo defender Simon Kjaer according to tribalfootball.com. Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Manchester City are all believed to be interested in the Dane, while interest from the mainland also comes in the form of Inter and Wolfsburg. Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini admits it is likely the 21-year-old will leave Sicily this summer: “I know of talks with the two Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Wolfsburg. When certain offers arrive, it’s necessary for the player to leave.”
Dos Santos wanted.
Giovani Dos Santos has become a summer transfer target of Italian club Genoa if reports from The Mirror are correct. The Mexican international failed to impress in the Premier League with Spurs after his move from Barcelona in 2008. But the 21-year-old has played an integral part in Mexico’s World Cup campaign so far and has drawn the eye of a number of European clubs. But after a six month loan spell with Galatasaray last season, Harry Redknapp may elect to keep hold of his young starlet and give him another shot to at White Hart Lane.
