Arsenal news – Gourcuff to Arsenal, Gunners step-up Melo interest, Fabregas sale depends on Ibra

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:

Gunners step-up Melo interest.

Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of Felipe Melo and testing Juventus’ resolve with an offer of a straight swap for Gael Clichy according to Tuttosport. Clichy has been a long-term target for the Old Lady and Juve general director Giuseppe Marotta previously told Gazzetta dello Sport that they would “evaluate all eventual offers” for their players. A stand-off is likely to ensue with Arsene Wenger unwilling to let the Frenchman leave with only the inexperienced Kieran Gibbs to replace him and with Juventus seeking a return on the substantial £21m they shelled out only last season to prise the Brazilian from Fiorentina.

Fabregas sale depends on Ibra.

Cesc Fabregas’ transfer is contingent upon Barcelona selling Zlatan Ibrahimovic according to the Metro. Barcelona’s firm stance over the asking price was thought to revolve around the player’s previous links to the club, with the Catalans unwilling to pay the fee demanded as Fabregas is a product of their youth academy. Now it appears as though they can’t afford the asking price, with the Telegraph reporting that financial difficulties and ongoing“liquidity problems” at the club caused the urgent sale of Dymytro Chygrynskiy back to Shakhtar Donetsk and the club requiring a loan to pay the players wages last month.

Gourcuff to Arsenal.

Should Fabregas leave, Arsenal are thought to be pursuing Bordeaux’s Yoann Gourcuff and Sky Sports reports that the French playmaker may be allowed to leave Stade Chaban-Delmas. President Jean-Louis Triaud commented on speculation surrounding Gourcuff and midfielder Alou Diarra: “If they want to leave and a club would pay the fee stated in the clauses, I would say congratulations and good luck.” Gourcuff currently has a £22m buy-out clause written into his contract with les Girondins.
