Arsenal in for Honda.
Arsenal have been put on alert to the availability of Japan’s World Cup star Keisuke Honda according to Sky Sports. The player’s agent refused to rule out a move to England, stating: “He plays in a beautiful city for an important club, but obviously if there are offers from big European clubs it’s difficult to say no.” The speculation comes in the wake of Arsene Wenger’s comments to Eurosport earlier in the week when he labelled the CSKA Moscow forward as a “genius” and stated: “For me he’s the best performer of the competition so far.” If he joins, he would follow in the footsteps of Junichi Inamoto and would bring significant commercial opportunities to the club along with his playing ability.
Bendtner to miss season start.
Nicklas Bendtner is set to miss the start of the season after aggravating his long-running groin injury featuring for Denmark in the World Cup according to The Telegraph<7i>. After surgery in November he returned to action, but was unable to complete Arsenal’s run-in due to a recurrence of the problem. The Dane stated that: “I had counted on that a total break from football and training would heal the injury, but it hasn’t happened… It doesn’t feel good at all – some mornings I can hardly get out of bed.” Bendtner is due to have a scan this week to ascertain the cause of the ongoing problem.
