Wenger turns to Mertesacker.

Arsene Wenger looks to renew his interest in German defender Per Mertesacker, if Everton refuse to budge on the asking price for Phil Jagielka. According to the Daily Star, a £10m offer is being lined up for the Werder Bremen defender who impressed during Germany’s impressive World Cup run. The Gunners still need reinforcements as William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre have already left the club.

Fabregas and RVP set to miss season start.

Arsenal expect that Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie will not return to full fitness in time for the new season. The two players had both featured in the World Cup final. For Spain and the Netherlands respectively, and will not return to training until 3rd August, which is 12 days before their opening Premier League fixture against Liverpool. Wenger said: “When you play in the World Cup final on July 11, it is difficult to have a complete recovery before the end of August.”

Fabregas to force transfer.

The Mail has reported that Cesc Fabregas may hand in a transfer request in order to force his dream move to Barcelona. The Spanish star is reportedly not taking no for an answer and is getting attracted even further by his former Barca and Spain teammate’s admissions in the press. If the Arsenal captain was to leave, then Wenger is likely to turn to Mesut Ozil or Japanese star Keisuke Honda.
