Liverpool news – Madrid pull out of Gerrard deal, Youngster set for Lecce move, Aquilani fit

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Liverpool. Today:

Madrid pull out of Gerrard deal.

Real Madrid have ended their interest in Steven Gerrard according to The Sun. The news may come as a relief to Liverpool fans as Mourinho’s club seemed to be the most interested party in acquiring the services of the Reds skipper, however that interest is now dead. It is claimed that the Anfield club placed an incredible £58m price-tag on Gerrard, which has consequently put Real Madrid off. The Spanish giants are unwilling to pay such a fee for a player who is 30 years old.

Aquilani fit.

Alberto Aquilani goes into the new campaign with his ankle 100% healed as reported by the Mirror. Rafael Benitez’s £20m buy last summer faced most of the season on the sidelines and there was much frustration on Merseyside over the Italian’s lack of fitness, however fans will now be boosted to hear that he is back to his best. Aquilani looked sharp in a couple of games last season and had a positive impact in how the side performed, therefore this news will be music to the ears of Roy Hodgson who will look to utilise Aquilani more consistently.

Youngster set for Lecce move.

Youngster Krisztian Nemeth is on his way out of Anfield having failed to make his way into the first team. The Mail reports that Italian club Lecce have made a £1m for the exciting 21-year-old Hungarian. Nemeth has been highly regarded at Anfield over the last few years and was supposedly the ‘next big thing’ on Merseyside. However, despite some impressive run-outs with the reserves, the youngster is deemed to be surplus to requirements at the club.
