According to the Mirror, the Reds boss wants the deal completed within the next couple of days so he can start working with his squad. Remy may eventually become the long-term replacement for Fernando Torres, should the Spaniard decide to leave Liverpool.

The centre-back has become one of the most chased after players in the Premier League having pleased with performances for the London club, however the Fulham Chronicle claims that he is ready to work under a new manager and try to finish higher in the league. The news will come as a disappointment to Hodgson who was reportedly interested in signing him for around £10m, however the manager does have enough centre-back’s at his disposal on Merseyside.

Plessis set for Benfica.

Rookie French midfielder Damien Plessis is on the verge of joining Benfica according to the Daily Mail. Plessis, 22, has failed to make a breakthrough into the first-team at Anfield and is deemed surplus to requirements by Roy Hodgson. The midfielder was signed by Rafael Benitez three years ago, however he has since made just three Premier League appearances. Plessis is interested in ending his Anfield hell by joining the Portuguese champions in a knock-down £600,000 deal.
