Liverpool news – Riera set for Greece move, Mascherano exit likely, Leiva to stay

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Liverpool. Today:

Riera set for Greece move.

Liverpool rebel Albert Riera looks set to move to Greece in a £4m swoop according to the Mirror. Riera was unhappy with ex-boss Rafael Benitez last season and the Spaniard rarely figured in any games for the Reds. However, he now has an opportunity to move to Olympiakos who are offering good wages to new players. Roy Hodgson intends to let Riera move on rather than persuade him to stay at Anfield, seeing as the cash raised by the sale will help fund a move for French target Loic Remy.

Leiva to stay.

Having been earlier told that he still has a future at Liverpool, Lucas Leiva has publicly committed his future to the Reds according to the Press Association. The young Brazilian midfielder has often been criticised by pundits and fans, however some have also seen him as one of the more consistent players last campaign. Although a firm favourite of Rafael Benitez, Lucas is determined to prove himself to new boss Roy Hodgson over the coming season.

Mascherano exit likely.

Argentina captain Javier Mascherano has still not been in touch with new manager Roy Hodgson, despite his country being knocked out of the tournament some time ago. The midfielder seems to want a move away from Anfield and appears to be avoiding the new Liverpool boss. The Daily Mail claims that Hodgson has left him several voice and text messages but to no response. This lack of communication makes it even more of a possibility that Mascherano will switch sides this summer.
