Liverpool news – Scharner to Liverpool, Torres injured, Benayoun blames Benitez

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Liverpool. Today:

Torres injured.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres was injured in last nights World Cup final against the Netherlands. Torres was only used as a very late substitute, however pulled up whilst chasing a ball. The striker was stretchered off and this new injury could scupper any potential move to Chelsea. The Londoners are favourite to sign Torres in a £50m move, however this latest problem with the fitness of Torres is likely to prevent that deal according to the Telegraph.

Scharner to Liverpool.

Former Wigan player Paul Scharner has been linked with Liverpool. His versatility make him an attractive option to Roy Hodgson, who has tried to sign him for Fulham on three previous occasions. Scharner is currently a free-agent and can play as a defender or midfielder. He is eyeing a dream move to Anfield according to Sky Sports however it is unclear whether Hodgson would want to bring him to Merseyside as much as he craved him at Fulham.

Benayoun blames Benitez.

Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun has blamed Rafael Benitez for his Liverpool exit. Just like Albert Riera’s rant a few months ago, Benayoun has now gone public and criticised the Spaniard for his alleged inability to praise players. Now at Chelsea, Benayoun felt Benitez made his life a misery on Merseyside as reported in the Guardian. Ironically, it was Benitez himself who brought Benayoun to the club and made him recognised enough to join a club of Chelsea’s stature.
