Man City news – City in for Arteta, Silva passes medical, Ex-City man passes away

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Man City. Today:

Silva passes medical.

David Silva has completed his move to Manchester City from Valencia for £24m, reports the BBC Sport website. Silva had a medical on Wednesday, before signing a four year contract at Eastlands. Silva will not join up with the squad until he returns from his holiday in the Canary Islands. Silva said: “I will be happy if at the end, we are in the Champions League – or if we win a trophy. My first target is to get into the team, and then to fight for the league and the other competitions.

City in for Arteta.

Manchester City are expected to reignite their interest in Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta if they fail to sign England international James Milner from Aston Villa. City boss Roberto Mancini had earmarked Milner as a top target, but the frustration at not being able to seal a deal with Aston Villa has made him move on to the Everton midfielder. Though there has been no contact between Everton and City over the Spanish playmaker, the Milner stalemate has worried the Everton hierarchy that they may lose their star man.

Ex-City man passes away.

On the BBC News website, it was announced that the former Manchester City player Ken Barnes has died at the age of 81, due to lung cancer. The father of ex-City and England winger Peter Barnes played in City’s victory in the 1956 FA Cup final. A spokesman for Manchester City said he would be sadly missed. Barnes made 283 appearances for the club in ten years and was inducted into the City hall of fame in 2004.
