Cleverley loan deal likely.

Newly promoted Blackpool and Newcastle United are both hoping to take Manchester United youngster Tom Cleverley on a season-long loan, according to Goal. Last week A Different League reported that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to give the midfielder a new contract. This will still happen but the Scot also wants to give the 20-year-old some experience of playing in the top flight. Cleverley spent last season on loan at Watford where he helped save the club from relegation.

Fergie rubbishes Rooney claims.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has rubbished rumours that star player Wayne Rooney is still suffering with injuries. The hitman struggled in the World Cup and failed to score in four appearances in South Africa. Reports suggested that the 24 year old who scored 34 times last season was suffering from an ankle injury. However Ferguson told the Mail on Sunday: “There’s nothing wrong with the lad or his fitness. He’s relaxing on holiday in Barbados and I expect him to come back refreshed for the new season.”

United back in for Ireland.

Manchester City’s Stephen Ireland has emerged as a transfer target for neighbours Manchester United, according to the Metro. Ireland who is a fans favourite at Eastland’s slipped down the pecking order last season after the departure of Mark Hughes. He has now asked current coach Roberto Mancini for a transfer and is prepared to move across the City in order to reignite his career. The Red Devils will face competition from Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham for the 23 year old.
