Newcastle news – Fee agreed for Perch, Magpies want Naylor, Carroll denies exit claims

Fee agreed for Perch.

Newcastle have agreed a fee with Nottingham Forest for long term target James Perch. The 24-year-older who can play across the back four and in midfield was subject of a 1m bid from United last January which was rejected. Subject to a medical the defender who played only 14 times last season will complete a move to St James.

Magpies want Naylor.

The Daily Record reports Newcastle United and Bolton are battling to sign released Celtic left-back Lee Naylor. With United desperate to strength their back four ahead of their return to the Premier League and have already been linked with a bid for Jay Lloyd-Samuel to provide cover for Spanish full back Jose Enrique. The former Wolves full back was released by new hoops boss Neil Lennon after four seasons in Glasgow.

Carroll denies exit claims.

Gateshead born forward Andy Carrol has rubbished speculation linking him with a move way from St James telling the Daily Star Sunday: “This is where I’m from and Newcastle are the only team for me.” The news comes after weeks of speculation linking the England under-21 international with moves to Stoke city and Chelsea. Carroll is close to agreeing a new long term deal at United which will see the powerful 21-year-old earn 1m a year.
