Owen backs Newcastle campaign.
Former Newcastle forward Michael Owen has revealed he ‘didn’t feel great’ about leaving United following the clubs relegation to the Championship. The club record signing cost £16m and was injured for much of his time at St James and told Sport.co.uk: “One of the highlights for me last season was Newcastle coming back up because, when I left, the club was really down and I didn’t feel great about myself. I know a lot of good people up there so it was great to see them coming back up. I think they’ll be alright as there are quite a few teams in the Premier League now who you’d say could struggle next year. So, if they can make St James’ Park as tough a place to go to as it used to be, I think they’ll do well.”
Magpies want Cleverly.
United are hoping to lure Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverly to the club on a 12 month loan deal after watching him impress on loan at Watford last season. The Mirror claims Hughton is close to making Cleverly his second signing of the summer following yesterday’s arrival of Nottingham Forrest defender James Perch. Cleverly has just signed a new contract at Old Trafford but boss Alex Ferguson is keen to see him continue his progress out on loan.
Rose loan deal option.
Premier League news boys Newcastle and Blackpool are battling to sign Spurs talented midfielder Danny Rose. The 20-year-old burst onto the scene last year with a spectacular striker against Arsenal last season. However Redknapp is keen to see Rose continue his development and is eager to loan him out to a Premier League Rival, after he spent the last six week of last season on loan at relegated Peterborough United.
