Torres set for Liverpool exit, Hodgson to target Engliush talent

Liverpool star Fernando Torres appears to be on the verge of quitting Anfield for another English club, according to the Daily Mail. His agent admitted ‘It is very likely that Fernando Torres will stay in the Premier League, but I cannot say that it will be with Liverpool. We are working on his future but right now you cannot guarantee that he will stay with the English club.’ Such a statement implies that the Spaniard is in talks with other Premiership clubs and is all but certain to leave Anfield.

Torres has been Rafael Benitez’s most successful signing and has scored plenty of goals in front of the Kop, giving him legendary status at Anfield already. However his future has been the subject of speculation for several months now as Liverpool failed to finish in the top four, along with the fact that the Anfield club are in huge debt which could be eased by selling their prized asset. Torres is currently on national duty with Spain at the World Cup, where he is enduring a rather disappointing tournament. It is thought his future will be decided after the competition comes to its conclusion.

Meanwhile, new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is looking to bring in more British talent to Anfield, according to the club’s official website. The former Fulham boss admitted that two of Rafael Benitez’s final signings, Raheem Sterling and Jonjo Shelvey, were a step in the right direction, however the 62 year-old wants to bring in more Englishman at a senior level. The Liverpool Daily Post claims that Hodgson is chasing the likes of Aston Villa winger Ashley Young as well as Newcastle defender Steven Taylor in order to suffice these requirements.
