Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:

New signings impress in Emirates Cup.

Arsenal saw out a 1-1 draw with AC Milan in the opening match of the Emirates Cup on Saturday. Marouane Chamakh scored on his Emirates debut to give the Gunners the lead after some neat build-up play by Andrey Arshavin. The game also saw fellow new signing Laurent Koscielny make his home debut, with the centre-half impressing, showing positional awareness and a good turn of pace to isolate the threat of Alexandre Pato. Arsenal play their final game of the tournament today as they entertain Celtic.

Wenger accuses Barca over Fabregas.

Arsene Wenger has suggested that Barcelona have to answer allegations of ‘tapping up’ Cesc Fabregas according to The Telegraph. Wenger was irritated by the focus on his captain’s future despite not featuring in their draw against AC Milan and identified that: “They have certainly a case to answer but, it is always the same, how can you prove it?” Having spoken with the player on Friday and called for him to lead Arsenal to the league title, Wenger put the onus firmly upon the player to clarify his future when he returns from holiday: “Only Fabregas can clear the air when he comes back from holidays. I cannot master what is written in newspaper I can only master our decisions. That is it, Cesc has five years to go. Barca has given up for a long time. Fabregas will stay here.”

Defenders still a priority.

Arsene Wenger is still on the look out for a new centre-half according to the club’s official website. The manager admitted that five central defenders were needed last season and with only three senior centre-backs signed on this term, Wenger is continuing his search: “There are plenty of names that we consider and we analyse. We look at the financial possibilities and the technical potential. But it is impossible for me to come out with a name.” Wenger is thought to be interested in Everton’s Phil Jagielka, having already had an approach rebuffed, but according to The Mirror, the defender’s brea- down in training this week has put a renewed approach in doubt.
