Once again, Arsenal head into the new season with renewed optimism of claiming the Premier League title. The youthful squad have gained another season of experience and some astute summer signings go some way towards converting hope into belief.
After a promising start to the 2009/10 season, the Gunners had to haul themselves back into title contention twice before eventually fading in the closing months. Home and away defeats to title rivals Manchester United and Chelsea cost them dear, as did a lack of firepower due to injuries sustained to key personnel. Perhaps of most concern was the defensive indecision that saw them drop leads and concede cheaply, a facet of their play that needs to be addressed this term.
