Rooney was replaced in the 61st minute of United’s 2-2 draw with Bolton on Sunday, with an ankle injury, and although the injury is not thought to be serious, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has decided not to risk his star striker for the trip to Spain.
The news comes shortly after Ferguson admitted that all the media attention surrounding the England striker could be affecting his performances, although there are no indications that this is behind the decision not to take Rooney to Valencia.
