Arsene Wenger has hailed goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski for “fighting against opinions” after the 25-year-old’s performance in the 3-0 victory over Man City yesterday.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, arsenal.com, Wenger said: “From game to game he shows what we see in training. Sometimes in our job you have to be steady and fight against opinions. It’s easier for you when you know the player has the talent and I believe he has the talent.”
The French manager would not, however, rule out bringing back Manuel Almunia once the Spaniard has recovered from injury, stating: “I never say that definitely because you always want the freedom to change when it is needed. At the moment looking at his (Fabianski’s) performances you can absolutely not fault him at all.”
Gunners want Barca youngster.
The People is reporting that the Gunners are lining up a swoop for “the new Cesc Fabregas” – ironically from transfer rivals Barcelona.
Sergei Samper, who is currently only 15 years old, could be set for a switch to the Emirates once he has turned 16 – which signals that a move in the January transfer window is a possibility.
Arsene Wenger is thought to be preparing to offer the youth player a four year contract in north London, with a fast track to the Arsenal first team – an offer almost identical to the one made to a young Fabregas seven years ago which saw the Spaniard leave his boyhood club. Samper is thought to be very much in the mould of the 23-year-old World Cup winner, and is both “tactically and technically astute” according to Goal.com.
Randall to Rotherham.
Arsenal youngster Mark Randall has left the club to join Rotherham United on a three-month loan deal.
The 21-year-old has made 13 first team appearances for the Gunners, including games in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
He has also had previous loan spells with Burnley and MK Dons, but was not signed in time to feature in the Millers’ 4-3 defeat to Wycombe at the weekend. According to BBC Sport, Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore told the club’s website: “It’s fantastic that Arsenal have allowed a player to come out who has played 13 first-team games.”
