Wilshere set for contract talks.
Jack Wilshere looks set to sign a bumper new deal to keep him at the Emirates for the long-term. He has already been capped at senior level for England and has been one of the most consistent performers in the Gunners’ first team this season following a successful spell on loan at Bolton last year. His impact already does not betray his 18 years, and his existing deal does not expire for another 18 months.
Manager Arsene Wenger told Skysports.co.uk: “We are confident that we will sign Jack very quickly. He has 18 months to go. I will try to get him on a longer one. We hope we can announce that soon.”
Szczesny in Celtic link.
Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has attracted interest from Old Firm giants Celtic. The Bhoys were reportedly impressed with the stoppers’ impressive performance in the Carling Cup tie against Newcastle, but according to Goal.com the Gunners are not keen on allowing the player to leave on loan again after his loan spell at League One outfit Brentford.
The cup tie with the Magpies was an exception rather than the rule with regards to his inclusion, however, and the 20-year-old has been outspoken about his lack of selection. Arsene Wenger said at a press conference: “I want to play him, but our job is about competition. However, he has the qualities to fight for the position and that is what I wish.”
Wenger:There’s more to come.
Arsene Wenger has insisted he is more than happy with the progress his current crop of players have made, and believes they are more than capable of ending the club’s five year trophy drought. The Gunners’ superb 3-0 victory at the City of Manchester Stadium last weekend was sandwiched between an impressive 4-0 win at Newcastle and a 5-1 Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.
According to Football.co.uk, the Frenchman said: “There is a lot more to come out of this team. I feel the ingredients of teams which I had before who were successful are in there. As long as the attitude is right and at the end of the season when you look back you think ‘this team has given absolutely everything they could’, you will be proud of them.”
