Capello praises Cole.
According to Footballfancast.com, Fabio Capello has praised Ashley Cole and he described the Chelsea defender as ‘one of the best left-backs in the world’. Cole will equal Kenny Sansom’s record for the most England caps won by a full-back when he makes his 86th appearance against Montenegro tonight. Capello declared: “The number of caps he has won is not a surprise to me. Ashley is good in so many ways. He’s good when he has to defend. He’s really good going forward. He’s intelligent and good with his movement. When he has the ball, no problems. He can move. He’s good when he has to defend but also good when he gets to the box. He understands how to play a pass. Other players don’t know what to do when they get in that position. But Ashley is always dangerous with his passes. He is an important player.”
Blues turn to Real Madrid defender.
Sport.co.uk reports that Chelsea have joined the race to sign Real Madrid defender Pepe.
The 27-year-old is out of contract in 2012 and although Jose Mourinho is desperate to tie him down to a new deal, the club are unwilling to match his lucrative wage demands. Spanish radio station Cadena Ser claims that Chelsea are the latest team to have shown an interest in the Portuguese international and the Blues would be willing to match his current £85,000 a week wages.
Barcelona, however, have been the surprise favourites for his signature after the player’s representatives apparently offered him to the Catalans but Real Madrid would be hesitant to sell to their arch rivals.
Vucinic wants to impress Prem clubs.
Mirko Vucinic has revealed that he will use Montenegro’s clash with England as an opportunity to showcase his talents to his Premier League suitors. Chelsea are one of four English clubs believed to be chasing the Roma hotshot. The 27-year-old has been a doubt for the Euro 2012 qualifier with a hamstring injury and he failed to train yesterday, but he is hoping he will get a chance to impress his suitors: “I am very happy there is a lot of interest from the Premier League, and I hope to do my best and have a great game. The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world. I just have to keep playing my football in the best possible manner.”
TalkSPORT reports that Arsenal are set to sign Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku. Anderlecht have finally agreed to let the 17-year-old leave and the Gunners are believed to be the favourites, ahead of Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and the Blues. The Belgian international, who has been compared with Didier Drogba, will cost £12.5m.
