Hodgson pleased with away draw.
Liverpool played out a goalless stalemate with Dutch side FC Utrecht. Liverpool struggled to equip themselves at Stadion Galgenwaard and created fewer clear cut chances than their opponents. Their one big chance fell to Fernando Torres who, in a one-on-one situation, pulled his shot wide of the near post. Speaking in The Guardian, Roy Hodgson declared himself pleased with the result, which maintains their unbeaten start in European competition this season, if not the performance. He also assuaged fears regarding Fernando Torres’ poor start to the season: “It was another good 90 minutes under his belt and he will be better for it,” he said.
FC Utrecht 0-0 Liverpool.
Roy Hodgson was left looking for positives following Liverpool’s 0-0 draw against FC Utrecht of Holland. Although far from dominated, there was far more goalmouth activity for the Liverpool defence to contend with than there was for Utrecht, meaning Hodgson was happy his team was resolute enough to leave with a clean sheet intact. “Utrecht did well, they were aggressive, determined and committed, so we knew we would have to be at our best to keep them out,” he admitted in the Daily Mail. “You could quite easily see today why Utrecht have such a good home record.”
Reds chase Payet.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Dimitri Payet in the Metro. Payet has been one of the star turns in La Championnat so far this season, scoring seven goals in his opening seven games to take St. Etienne to the summit of the table. His form has also impressed Laurent Blanc, who is thought to be considering calling up the forward to the full national team for the first time. In a deal which could cost £7 million, Liverpool are thought to head the queue for his signature, ahead of Aston Villa.
