Berbatov responds to Fergie chat.
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he gave Dimitar Berbatov a pep talk before the season started in a bid to trigger some form.
“You’re the one in control here. You’ve got fantastic ability and you need to realise that ability and make the most of it. We’ll be here to support you,” he told the Bulgarian before the season kicked off.
The United manager told The Telegraph, “What we’re seeing now is a striker who’s playing with belief and confidence. All strikers are massively reliant on those two factors,” before declaring, “Berbatov has both.”
Last chance for Hargreaves.
Owen Hargreaves knows that he is facing his last chance to comeback from his serious knee injury.
After two years out, a friend of Hargreaves told The Sun, “He has decided to give it one last big push but if this doesn’t work that will probably be it,” adding “the pain in his knees has not just affected his football, but normal life.”
Hargreaves is due to return against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carling Cup on October 26th. His last appearance was two minutes against Sunderland at the end of last season, after which he suffered a recurrence of his knee injury.
Smalling praise for Ferdinand.
Young United defender Chris Smalling has heaped praise on Rio Ferdinand.
“He has been a real joy to be alongside. The stature of the guy is something to look up to,” he told The Telegraph. “He has built up that presence over the years and he is just very commanding. I cannot be in a better atmosphere to be learning my trade.”
Smalling joined the club in the summer from Fulham, and is obviously enjoying the step up. Rio Ferdinand has only just made a come back from a serious knee injury but he is obviously having an impact, “Whether he pus on that captain’s armband or it is just training, he is leading the team.”
