Giggs tells Rooney to toughen up.

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has told Wayne Rooney to toughen up. The Welshmen has told Rooney that “you get a thick skin and it helps you in the long run”. In an interview with The Sun, Giggs tells of the media pressure he had as a youngster, and how it has changed for today’s youngsters. “It’s not just sportswriters, it’s front pages and gossip magazines. That wouldn’t have happened 10 years ago.” Giggs backed Rooney, and United, to come good, “when Wayne starts scoring again, we’ll be in extremely good shape.”

Rio accepts decisions.

England captain Rio Ferdinand has accepted Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans to ease him back into the United side. Following several months out injured, Rio has found himself watching some games from the stands. “The manager has said I probably needed a couple of games and I think that is obvious,” Ferdinand told The Telegraph, “I’ve been out such a long time that to expect me to come back and play bang, bang, bang on the bounce is perhaps unrealistic.” United have struggled at the back this season, but Rio accepts his lot, “I trust the manager’s judgement.”

Fergie in media snub.

Sir Alex Ferguson has imposed a month-long media ban following the reporting of his comments following the Liverpool game. Ferguson has been riled by some media outlets reporting him as describing Fernando Torres as a cheat for winning the free kick Liverpool levelled with. According to ESPN this led to Ferguson cancelling Friday’s press conference and Ferguson is not “expected to speak publicly for a month.” Ferguson declared Torres had made “an absolute meal” of John O’Shea’s challenge, and said that there was “no doubt he tried to get the player sent off.”
