Northumbria Police are investigating an arson attack on Newcastle striker Andy Carroll’s car.
Earlier this week A Different League reported that Carroll had been bailed on charges of assaulting ex-girlfriend Laurie Henderson, on the condition he lived with club captain Kevin Nolan.
Now The Journal reports that Carroll’s chrome-plated 4×4 was set alight outside Nolan’s house and offensive graffiti sprayed across Nolan’s garage door.
“The fire was extinguished by the fire and rescue service and no one was injured,” said a Northumbria Police spokesman. “The garage door of the property was also vandalised. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.”
Jonas: Next 2 weeks are critical.
Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez believes the next two weeks are so important that they will define the club’s season.
The Magpies host West Ham United and Sunderland at St James’s either side of a Carling Cup trip to Arsenal. “We have West Ham and then Sunderland,” Gutierrez told The Chronicle. “We have to get it right in those games and all of the players don’t need to be told how important these games are.
“The next three games will shape our season. I would like to think we can get six points and stay in the cup. The next two weeks are not only vital to this season, but possibly the history of the club.”
No Fernandez move.
The agent of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matias Fernandez has insisted he is unaware of Newcastle’s reported interest in the player.
With Hatem Ben Arfa sidelined set to miss most of the season following his double leg break earlier this month, the Magpies had been linked with a move for the tricky Chilean, 24.
However the player’s agent, Alejandro Santiesteban, has dismissed the story as a mere rumour, reports Goal.com.
“I’m not aware of the reported interest in Matias from Newcastle,” he said. “Nobody has got in touch with me so I think it must be a rumour.
“If a team is really interested in a player and has to pay a transfer fee then they have to get in touch with me and the club. That hasn’t happened.”
