Rooney Timeline – Part 2

With Wayne Rooney seemingly on his way out of Old Trafford for pastures new, Ryan Keaney takes a look over the up-and-down six years that the striker has enjoyed with Manchester United:

August 2006: Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes are both sent off against Porto in the pre-season Amsterdam Tournament. Television replays suggested that the sending off was harsh as Rooney looked totally focused on the ball as he went into the air against Pepe. “I thought the ref was going to give a free kick for the foul on me because of the defender backing in,” admitted the England striker, who caught the defender in the face with his hand. “I can’t believe he has sent me off for that.” Both players were suspended by the FA for three matches.

September 2006: It is widely reported that Rooney punched Blackburn defender Michael Gray during a scuffle in a Manchester restaurant. The incident took place at the Panacea restaurant after Gray approached Wayne and his fianc
