Tottenham’s Heurelho Gomes believes his side have what it takes to progress far in the Champions League.
The Brazilian reached the Semi-Finals back in 2005 with PSV and according to Goal.com, he sees similarities between that team and his current Spurs side. The goalkeeper revealed: “I am an optimist. When I joined Spurs, I said my goal was to win the Premier League. People laughed, but that’s how I am. If we make the knockout stages, anything could happen,” before adding: “It’s tricky to compare, but maybe you can point to the absence of superstars and the presence of young players willing to work their socks off.”
That PSV side, for example, had only Phillip Cocu as a famous name, but the other players showed that no team would walk over us. I see the same spirit at Spurs and hope we can emulate 2004-05. We have a group that is growing together at the same time and individuals who are making progress. Gareth Bale, for example, is coming along really well.”
The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham have rejoined the race for Belgian wonderkid Romelu Lukaku.
It emerged recently that the North London side had a £17.5m bid for the Anderlecht youngster rejected in the summer. Arsenal have emerged as favourites to sign the striker but Spurs are apparently ready to up their earlier offer.
The Mail also reckons that Tottenham are tracking Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham and they sent chief scout Ian Broomfield to watch Hapoel Tel-Aviv’s Itay Shechter who scored 25 goals last season.
Spurs move for Lopez.
According to the Mirror, Spurs are also keeping tabs on Lisandro Lopez. Harry Redknapp feels the club need reinforcements up front in order to cope with their Champions League and Premier League schedule and the Lyon striker would be available for around £14m in January. Liverpool are also interested in the 27-year-old who was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year during his first season in France. talkSPORT , however, suggests that Spurs are interested in another Argentine forward, Raul Marcelo Bobadilla. The Borussia Monchengladbach striker is valued at around £6m and has also caught the attention of Udinese and Napoli.
