According to the Metro, Gerard Houllier will look to Robbie Keane if he fails in his attempts to land Manchester United striker Michael Owen. The Aston Villa boss is keen to reunite Owen with his former Liverpool striker partner Emile Heskey and with the 30-year-old out of favour at Old Trafford, the Frenchman believes he will be able to agree a deal in January.
However, it remains to be seen whether Sir Alex Ferguson will be willing to let him go rather than see out the end of his deal and if this is the case, Houllier will reportedly turn to Keane. The Republic of Ireland international has fallen down the Spurs pecking order and finds himself behind Jermain Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch. He has reportedly been warned by Giovanni Trapattoni that he needs to be playing regular first team football. Harry Redknapp could use Villa’s interest in Keane as a way to test the water for target Ashley Young.
