Arsenal news – Sagna: Cheer Gallas, RvP suggested VdV signing, Wilshere wants derby start

Sagna: Cheer Gallas.

Bacary Sagna has urged the Arsenal fans not to hurl abuse at former Gunners captain William Gallas when the Frenchman returns to the Emirates this weekend. Gallas defected to bitter north London rivals Tottenham in the summer, having rejected a new contract with the Reds.

According to The Telegraph, Sagna said: “He deserves a good reception from the fans because he always did well for Arsenal and was very professional. He always gave everything even if he had some moments when people looked at him because of his behaviour. It was hunger because he wanted to win so much. Maybe he expressed it in a bad way, but he wanted us to win something.”

Wilshere wants derby start.

Midfielder Jack Wilshere is hopeful that he can feature in the north London derby with Spurs at the weekend. The 18-year-old had been due to make his first England start in the friendly against France on Wednesday, but was forced to withdraw due to a back injury.

According to BBC Sport, he said on Twitter: “Feeling better, training tomorrow [Friday] and hopefully selected for Saturday.” Arsene Wenger also told Arsenal TV: “He has a strain of a little muscle in his back – we’ll know more on Friday.”

RvP suggested VdV signing.

Robin van Persie has told The Sun that he called for Arsenal to sign Rafael van der Vaart before his fellow Dutchman signed for Spurs for £8m at the end of the August transfer window.

Speaking ahead of the north London derby where he is likely to line up against his compatriot, van Persie says he suggested on more than one occasion that the Gunners approach the former Real Madrid star.

He said: “I’d rather he was at Arsenal. I indicated a couple of times that Rafael would be useful for Arsenal but that advice was not followed.”
