Salomon Kalou has reiterated that the Chelsea players have full belief and confidence in manager Carlo Ancelotti following the Blues’ 2-1 win over MSK Zilina in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The midfielder did, however, concede that the aura of invincibility which previously surrounded last season’s double winners has vanished after three defeats in four domestic games.
According to The Telegraph, Kalou said: “Have we lost the fear factor? Yes,” said Florent Malouda. “Maybe teams have more confidence when they come here. We have never doubted that the manager would be here. I don’t think when you lose two games the manager is under pressure. Carlo is very important to us. He doesn’t put the players under pressure and he has brought his own calm to the team which helps us play to our full potential.”
Blues have “new Ashley Cole”.
The future is bright at Stamford Bridge according to Daniel Sturridge! The former Manchester City striker has tipped young left-back Patrick van Aanholt to become the “next Ashley Cole” following the 20-year-old’s second Blues start in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The former Coventry and Newcastle loanee put in an assured display at left-back, and according to The Fulham Chronicle Sturridge said: “He’s Ashley Cole in the making. The way he plays is unbelievable. He bombs on, and in the 90th minute he’s still getting forward getting crosses in and earning corners for the team. There’s not many left-backs around the country or in the world who do that. He’s got a lot of energy, and is a very good player.”
Sturridge to Swansea?
Speaking of Daniel Sturridge, the 21-year-old is reportedly a shock loan target for Championship high-flyers Swansea. Swans’ manager Brendan Rogers, who is a former reserve and youth team coach at Stamford Bridge, spoke to Carlo Ancelotti about the deal in the hope of concluding the one-month move before today’s emergency loan deadline.
While the Blues rejected the initial approach, a deal could yet be struck in the new year in order to gain some invaluable experience for the highly-rated young striker. Sturridge scored the Blues’ winner against Zilina on Tuesday.
