Glen Johnson, through word of his ‘people’, has hit back at Roy Hodgson’s criticism of his form at Liverpool so far this season, claiming that the football that Liverpool play is ‘boring’. According to The Guardian, Bayern Munich and Juventus lead the chase for the disaffected England international right-back, whose relationship with Roy Hodgson seems at best strained.
Hodgson moved to defend his criticism about Johnson’s form in light of Johnson’s retaliation. “It’s no good being a player of great ability if you are not bringing that to the field of play,” he said. “He, as well as I, knows he has not reached that form very often.”
Hodgson reacts to Dalglish calls.
As the game slipped away from Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, fans’ frustrations rose. Less than a week after inflicting a 2-0 defeat on Chelsea in undeniably their best performance of the season, Liverpool supporters were again chanting the name of ‘Dalglish’. The insinuation was obvious – that he should replace Roy Hodgson, who is perceived not to be up to the job.
“The fans can chant for whoever they want,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “Fans make their frustrations felt every time we lose a game.” He was also pragmatic about his future at the club and the possibility of the sack: “If the club decide they want to give the job to somebody else, then I have to accept it.”
Torres in injury scare.
Liverpool confirmed that Fernando Torres suffered ankle ligament damage during their 2-0 defeat to Stoke at the weekend, but assured that his injury isn’t serious enough to prevent him from joining up with his Spanish teammates for their friendly against Portugal. Skysports.com confirmed a Liverpool statement read: “Fernando Torres suffered ankle ligament strain during Saturday’s clash with Stoke City – but the striker will still join up with the Spain squad for their friendly against Portugal.”
Liverpool fans will be wary of the dangers of a half-fit Torres joining up with his international team-mates. Coming back from this summer’s international duty unfit and out of form is what caused his juddering start to the season, after all.
