City boss Roberto Mancini has insisted he is happy with the goalless draw in last night’s Manchester Derby.
Despite being the home side, the Italian set his side up to contain Manchester United, resulting in the first 0-0 draw in this fixture for six years. But Mancini insists he is happy with a result that keeps City in fourth, three points behind United and seven behind leaders Chelsea.
“I prefer one point to zero points, which was the case last season,” said Mancini. “When you play in a derby it is a difficult game. We did not have many chances to score but it was a good point.
“We tried to win but they defended very well. We play to win but when you do not have many chances it is difficult.”
Fenerbahce want De Jong.
The Daily Mail reports that troubled Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong is a transfer target for Turkish side Fenerbahce.
De Jong has come in for fierce criticism this season, first for his now-infamous chest-high kick at Xabi Alonso in the World Cup final and then the tackle on Hatem Ben Arfa that broke the Newcastle winger’s leg in two places.
Fenerbahce believe that De Jong, who has been dropped from the Holland squad by coach Bert Van Marwijk, is open to the idea of escaping the glare of the Premier League. But they would have a fight on their hands, with Mancini repeatedly standing up for his player and City hardly needing to sell.
Santa Cruz offered to Wolfsburg.
City striker Roque Santa Cruz, now all but confirmed to leave the club in January, has been offered to Wolfsburg, according to Metro.
The Paraguayan has fallen out of favour at Eastlands and spoke earlier this week of his desire to leave in the winter transfer window. Now Metro claims that he will be offered to Steve McClaren’s Wolfsburg, potentially as makeweight in a deal for the highly-coveted Bosnian Striker Edin Dzeko.
Mark Hughes’ Fulham are also interested in Santa Cruz, who is expected to be available for as little as £3m.
