Fergie hails Vidic captaincy.
Sir Alex Ferguson has backed his decision to give Nemanja vidic the captain’s armband. The defender has been leading the team this season after Gary Neville could no longer be guaranteed to play every week.
Ferguson told Sky Sports, “We had to choose someone who we felt was going to be fit and playing every week. That is difficult when you rotate the squad the way we do. We felt Vidic was closest to that. And he is a defender and I always think they make better captains.”
Walcott backs Rooney.
Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has backed Wayne Rooney to survive the recent sagas that have surrounded him.
The winger told The Sun, “As an England player, I didn’t want to see one of our best players going abroad, so I’m glad it’s sorted. Every time you think of Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson, you just think of them as Man U. It’s great news for the club that they have got their man. For me, he’s one of the best players I’ve played with, alongside David Beckham.”
Walcott reassured United fans that “I’m sure he’ll be back playing at the best of his abilities in no time.”
Diarra closer to Utd move.
Despite Sir Alex Ferguson ruling out any transfer activity in January, Manchester United are being linked with a move for Lassana Diarra.
Diarra has fallen down the pecking order since Mesut Ozil and Sami Kedira arrived at the Bernabeau and Ferguson is a known admirer of the former Arsenal and Chelsea man.
Diarra said, “come January, we will take stock, and if we are not happy with that is happening we will find solutions, no problem.”
