Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has tipped Cheick Tiote for big things in the Premier League in the aftermath of the Blues’ 1-1 draw at St James’s Park.
The defensive midfielder has become a fixture in Chris Hughton’s midfield since his £3.5m summer arrival from Eredivisie side FC Twente, but the best is yet to come, according to Ivory Coast captain Drogba.
“I think Cheik is going to go on and be one of the strongest players in this league,” Drogba said. “I have to say that physically he is a bit stronger than me. Newcastle well and truly have a star player on their hands in Cheik.
“I think their supporters have only seen half of his potential so far. You have only seen half the player but the more Cheik plays at Premier League level the better he will become.”
Adam Johnson to Magpies.
Reports on Manchester Click this morning are linking Manchester City winger Adam Johnson with a January loan move to Newcastle United.
Johnson, 23, has starred at Eastlands since his £6m move from Middlesbrough last January, but has spoken publicly of his frustrations at a lack of playing time. City boss Roberto Mancini has opted to use Johnson from the bench more often than not amid concerns over the winger’s attitude.
However Click Manchester report that Magpies manager Chris Hughton is set to make a move for the player in January on a six-month loan.
Enrique: Chelsea Point Was Huge.
Magpies full-back Jose Enrique believes the unexpected point secured against Chelsea at St James’s on Sunday was sorely needed.
Newcastle suffered their heaviest defeat of the season the previous weekend in the 5-1 reverse to Bolton Wanderers. But Enrique believes the point gained from a battling performance against the Champions was vital for the Magpies’ self-confidence.
“It was really important, of course for the point, but also for our confidence,” Enrique said, according to Tribal Football. “We know we can beat any team, but we can also lose to anyone – this league is a little bit crazy.
“I know we were playing at home, but we were playing against Chelsea. They needed the points and they came here to win the three points, but we got a draw and that was really good.”
