Newcastle Utd news – Magpies in for Matavz, Blackburn want Smith, Krul urges caution

Krul urges caution.

Newcastle keeper Tim Krul has urged his team-mates to keep their feet on the ground despite their stunning run of form.

The Magpies have won their last three matches, capped by a stunning away win over Arsenal last weekend, but Dutch stopper Krul, 22, only has eyes for Wednesday’s visit of Blackburn.

“We’re allowed to be happy today, but tomorrow we need to focus on Blackburn,” he told the club’s official website. “We need a new gameplan for Blackburn because it’s going to be a different game.

“Sam Allardyce has got different tactics and we need to be ready for them, because we saw what happened when we played against Blackpool and we thought we were going to win that game. It should be a good game.”

Krul expressed his delight at the win over Arsenal, adding: “To come to Arsenal and get three points is just fantastic. The whole team at the moment looks so strong and powerful. We feel unbeatable at the moment.”

Blackburn want Smith.

Magpies midfielder Alan Smith is a transfer target for Blackburn Rovers, reports Fans FC.

The former Leeds and Manchester Utd man, 30, has fallen down the pecking order at St James’s following the fine form of summer arrival Cheick Tiote.

Smith has 18 months to run on his current deal and boss Chris Hughton has assured him he still has a role to play for Newcastle. But Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce, who signed Smith from Old Trafford when he was Magpies boss, can offer regular first team football and may make an offer in January

Magpies in for Matavz.

Newcastle’s fine start to the season has not deterred boss Chris Hughton from wanting to bolster his squad, with Slovenian striker Tim Matavz the latest name to be linked with a switch to St James’s, according to IMScouting.

Matavz, 21, currently plies his trade at FC Groningen in the Dutch Eredivisie and has scored five goals in 13 games this season. Last month he made his international mark by scoring a hat-trick against the Faroe Islands.

Faroes boss Brian Kerr has personally recommended the player to Hughton and Newcastle scouts have apparently watched the player on three separate occasions this season.
