Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson reportedly wants to sell Ryan Babel in order to raise some funds to bring new players to Anfield, and Tottenham have been mentioned as a likely destination.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is reported to have made a previous enquiry about the player’s availability, but his fine form in the second half of last season prevented a move.
It is thought, according to Imscouting.com, that Hodgson’s first choice would be to use the Dutchman as a makeweight to sign Ashley Young from Aston Villa, but boss Gerard Houllier has refused to sell. Should that situation not change he is set to get in touch with Spurs about taking Babel to White Hart Lane.
Djalo puts Tottenham on alert.
Yannick Djalo has put Spurs and Everton on alert after admitting he may quit current club Sporting in January.
While he is a long-term target for the Toffees, his agent reportedly said in the summer that Spurs would be his preferred move. The Daily Mail is carrying the story today, saying that while a pre-season move failed to materialise January is still a distinct possibility for the 24-year-old to move to England.
The Portuguese international said: “There is still time until January and then we’ll see what is best for me and the club. I can only say that for me the most important thing is Sporting. I’m at a great club that formed me from junior level and I owe it all to them.”
Kranjcar and Bentley on way out?
Following rumours that Niko Kranjcar is almost certainly on his way out of White Hart Lane, another player being mooted to be shown the exit door is David Bentley. The 26-year-old joined Spurs from Blackburn for £15m but has found life tough at the club under Harry Redknapp.
Imscouting.com is reporting that Sunderland are interested, and have been known admirers of Bentley in the past. With Redknapp keen to offload some of his fringe players, a loan deal is also considered a possibility though this is thought to hinge on whether the Black Cats secure the permanent signing of Man City defender Nedum Onuoha who is currently on loan at the Stadium of Light.
