The Mail Online is reporting that Frank Lampard looks set to step up his battle to regain fitness by playing in a friendly behind closed doors at the club’s Surrey training ground this evening.
Carlo Ancelotti is keen to help Lampard take every chance possible to gain full fitness ahead of the crunch battle with Man United on Sunday. The England international returned to first team action in the draw with Spurs last weekend, but still has to work in order to be considered fit enough to start.
The friendly this evening will consist of two teams made up of first teamers and reserve players.

As rumours regarding his future continue to spread, Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly being lined up to replace former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.
With Mourinho reportedly struggling to work with Real president Florentino Perez, Mirror Football is reporting that Ancelotti is being considered for the hotseat should Mourinho depart the Bernabeu.
The flames were further stoked when an unnamed player quoted as saying: “The atmosphere isn’t good at the moment. Everyone is convinced Carlo has had enough.”
Should Ancelotti depart, Roman Abramovich is considering an audacious move for Pep Guardiola of Barcelona, who is also considered a strong contender to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
Blues plan Bundesliga raid.
Chelsea are looking to strengthen their pool of central defenders with bids for Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic and Wolfsburg’s Simon Kjaer, according to Imscouting.com.
With the champions have suffered from a lack of cover in the absence of John Terry and Alex’s injury, Carlo Ancelotti is thought to be considering strengthening the depth of options available to him.
The Blues are also wanting to identify a long-term replacement for their 30-year-old captain, with Subotic considered a top choice. The 22-year-old, who is contracted to Dortmund until 2014, could cost around €15m-€20m, and the same price is being mooted for Kjaer, who only joined Wolfsburg in the summer for €13m from US Palermo.
