Ahead of Monday’s top of the table clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford, United’s Portuguese winger Nani believes it is the Gunners, and not Chelsea who present the biggest threat to the Reds title ambitions.
A poor run of one league win from six has seen Chelsea’s one-time five point lead shattered, with Arsene Wenger’s men replacing them at the top of the table.
Arsenal hold are a point clear of United in second, and Nani predicts the two will be vying for top-spot come May.
‘‘Arsenal are a bigger threat than Chelsea” he said. “They have been winning and being top of the league gives you great confidence. They are growing up in the way we are.”
Rio fit for Gunners.
Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that skipper Rio Ferdinand will be fit to face the Gunners on Monday night.
Ferdinand was taken off during the second half of Wednesday’s Champions League tie with Valencia, complaining of a hamstring strain.
That led to fears the 31-year-old would be ruled out for the pivotal matches against title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, however Ferguson has allayed those worries.
“Rio has a tight hamstring. We weren’t prepared to take a chance. There was no point, he has six days and I am sure he will be okay for Monday.”
Amos loan exit.
Manchester United’s most recent Champions League debutant is in line for an extended run of games – away from Old Trafford.
20-year-old Goalkeeper Ben Amos made his first European appearance for the Red Devils against Valencia on Wednesday night, but with Edwin van der Sar the undisputed number one and Danish international Anders Lindegaard on his way in, Amos may now need to look elsewhere to find football.
The Macclesfield born stopper said, “It is crucial for a young goalkeeper to get a good run of games. The only way of doing that is by going out and playing regularly somewhere. If it means me going out on loan somewhere, that might be great.”
