The postponed title clash between Manchester United and Chelsea has been provisionally rearranged to take place on March 1.
The original match was called off because of heavy snow, which claimed all but 3 fixtures last weekend. The proposed fixture will go ahead so long as neither team are involved in an FA Cup fifth-round replay.
In related news, Barcelona have announced a pre-season friendly with Manchester United on July 30, which will be hosted in Washington DC.
No Beckham return.
Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled out a sensational return for club favourite David Beckham, according to the Mail Online.
Beckham is currently searching for a European club to join on loan before the start of the American MLS season in March. He has enjoyed two previous spells at Italian giants AC Milan before a ruptured Achilles tendon forced him to miss the 2010 World Cup.
Asked yesterday about re-signing Beckham, Ferguson said: ‘I don’t think so with David at his age. I’ve never signed a player as old as that, have I?’
Fans will perhaps be quick to remind Fergie that he signed French defender Laurent Blanc at the tender age of 35 whilst he previously signed Henrik Larsson (35) and Andy Goram (36) on short-term loan deals.
Utd on Young alert.
Gerard Houllier has revealed today that the club would consider selling England starlet Ashley Young for the right price.
Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer of Young who has 18 months left to run on his current deal. Young is reportedly disillusioned with Villa’s renewed lack of aspiration and could follow fellow Englishman Gareth Barry and James Milner out of the club.
Houllier admitted: “In January the best clubs keep their best players but you never know if someone comes with crazy money.
“We hope to keep him and he knows that the club’s will is to keep him.”
