Tottenham news – Spurs in for Dutch striker, Sherwood keen on Rovers job, Gomes: No penalty research

Sherwood keen on Rovers job.

Tim Sherwood says he has not been approached by former club Blackburn Rovers about their vacant managerial position.

Rovers yesterday sacked boss Sam Allardyce and Sherwood – skipper of the 1995 title winning team – was an early frontrunner to take over.

The 41-year-old is currently part of Harry Redknapp’s coaching set-up at Tottenham, but admits he would be interested in becoming a manager in the future.

“Blackburn are a great club but I’m happy doing what I’m doing,” said Sherwood. “I’m busy gaining my qualifications at a great club but who knows when new opportunities arise? I have not been approached but 100% I want to be a manager.”

With the transfer window approaching fast, the papers are full to the brim with tales of whom Tottenham are going to be signing.

Talksport reckon that Harry Redknapp is set to move for Feyenoord’s teenage Dutch striker Luc Castaignos, who is valued at around £4m.

Not content with having a midfield full of diminutive ball-players, Redknapp is also said to be interested in Schalke’s Croatian winger Ivan Rakitic according to Sport.co.uk.

And finally, Stephen Sessegnon will come through the revolving doors of White Hart Lane, just as Robbie Keane and David Bentley are passing him on the way out.

Gomes: No penalty research.

Heurelho Gomes reckons he does not research penalty takers techniques before games – because it affects his reactions.

Gomes has earned a reputation as a specialist spot-kick saver since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven in 2008, and was on hand to stop Didier Drogba’s injury time effort against Chelsea on Sunday.

The 29-year-old Brazilian says he prefers to read his opponent’s actions, rather than reflecting on their previous attempts.

Gomes said, “I don’t like to watch the penalty kicks because sometimes it stays in your head – you might think ‘it’s coming to the right, it’s coming to the right’. I try to wait as long as I can and then go the right way.”
